Bimetal plain bearing bushes consist of a bronze and steel alloy. The soft bronze inner layer can provide good lubricating performance with oil grease, the hard steel back can support the whole bearing well and reduce the cost.
These Bimetal plain bearing bushes are mainly used for bearing arrangements where heavy loads must be supported and where the rotational or oscillating movements are relatively slow.
Bimetal Bushing standard sizes have grease grooves on the work surface. For standard bearings, the steel base is usually copper plated to improve corrosion resistance. The lead bronze layer allows these bearings to be used with relatively long lubrication intervals.
Bimetallic bearings can be fabricated with a thicker layer of lead bronze for applications where the bearing must be machined after installation. The layer material can be tailored to the specific needs of a particular application.
